Having worked in the travel industry for 20+ years Travel Leaders’ travel advisor, Rey Alton, has planned dozens of honeymoons for many couples whom all want to a different type of honeymoon experience. When a couple asks me for honeymoon suggestions my first answer is, “Take a honeymoon that is unique and that will be timeless in your memories for years to come”. The best way to do this, is to honeymoon by gondola in the city of Venice.

Located in the northeastern region of Italy, Venice is a city like no other in the world with its intricate chain of canals weaving their way through the city. Venice is where a couple can board a romantic gondola and return to an era of lavish and exquisite beauty. The best time for couples to visit Venice is in May or September, as the weather is cooler and you miss the start and end of the tourist season. During this time you will also get lower rates on hotels and airfare.

I always suggest that my clients stay at the The Westin Europa & Regina, Venice, as it is located right in the center of everything there is to see and the hotel staff is very accommodating. When it comes to exploring Venice, I encourage my clients to roam the city and get lost viewing the architecture, historic churches, and gelato shops. Historic places to visit are the Rialto Bridge, which is also a marketplace to purchase Carnevale masks and souvenirs. I also recommend visiting St. Mark’s Square that has been captured in several Hollywood films such as Casino Royale and The Italian Job. It is also a place for celebrity sightings, as I happened to run into Kayne West and Kim Kardashian during my own Venice honeymoon in 2012. One cannot leave Venice without taking a romantic ride on a gondola. I strongly suggest that couples do this activity on a private tour and during the day, which will allow you to see the beautiful scenery. Riding a gondola at night can be romantic, but you also don’t see a lot as it is very dark.
